Annual Benefit Luncheon

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). SAAM is a time to focus national attention on the realities of sexual violence and to promote safe, respectful relationships. In Hawai'i, The Sex Abuse Treatment Center joins with other groups and organizations in April to create awareness and to motivate residents to take action to create a safe, sexual violence free Hawai'i.

This year, members of SATC joined military representatives, state and local public officials, and community leaders at Honolulu Hale to be present as Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell signed a proclamation declaring April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Wahine Surfing Classic

Every summer surfing competition promoter China Uemura donates proceeds from his Wahine Surfing Classic to The Sex Abuse Treatment Center. China, former champion longboard surfer, created the competition after a SATC public service announcement on TV struck a cord with him. "I heard about kids getting sexually abused... and I wanted to help them and let parents know there's a place they can go for help if something like this happens. I also knew community agencies like SATC always need more money... a surf competition was a way to spread the word and also raise some money for them."
